Race for Hope benefits domestic violence victims in Palm Beach County

Delray beach runners "Race for Hope"

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - At least one thousand athletes laced up their running shoes Saturday to participate in the "Race for Hope" in Delray Beach.

The race starts on Gleason Street then travels onto A1A. The roadway will be shut down until noon on Saturday.

The race benefits "Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse," or AVDA.

AVDA provides emergency assistance to victims of domestic violence. It also has a hotline victims can call when in need.

Agency officials say AVDA has seen a 40% spike in cases over the last year.

Runners encountered some rain and wind during the race, but the 10K and 5K still went on.
