DELRAY BEACH, Fla.-- Delray Beach police have a warning for you. If you’ve gotten money out of a Bank of American ATM check your account.
Tonight, a man is charged with distracting ATM customers to steal their money.
Bank of America Surveillance video captured 32-year-old Marvin Conley, one of two men police say is responsible for the crime.
Conley is the man police say is responsible for an ATM robbery scam last Thursday at the Bank of America on SE 8th Street. It’s one of three branches where detectives say the crime happened.
The scam also happened at the Bank of America on 16126 S. Military Trail.
Police say the men disabled the drive thru ATM with an “out of-order” sign or by jamming a piece of paper in the card reader.
Customers told police when they went around to the walkup ATM, Conley followed them and somehow got access to their accounts.
“We don't know at this point how they're doing that,” said Dani Moschella, a spokeswoman with the Delray Beach Police Department. “We don't know if they somehow obtained their pins or if they are answering the question do you want another transaction after a customer walks away.”
“I feel bad,” said Marie Ferle, of Lantana, who’s a Bank of America customer. “I don't feel comfortable with money in the bank anymore. I don't know. I don't have no choice.”
The second man police say is responsible has not been charged yet in the case.
