International Tennis Championships parking, schedule, road closures: Delray Beach event begins

15th year Delray hosts tennis competition

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Tens of thousands of people are expected to flock to Delray Beach Friday for the International Tennis Championships.

This is the 15th year the city in southern Palm Beach County has hosted the event.

Tennis pros such as John McEnroe, Carlos Moya and Pat Cash will be competing.

The first match starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The competition runs through March 3.

City employees will start redirecting traffic at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. Signs are placed throughout the area to direct drivers of detours.

Despite the expected increase in traffic, business owners say they're looking forward to the event. It brings a lot of people, which event organizers say spend a lot of money. Officials say each year the event brings in $14 million to Delray Beach.

Business owners say they have one complaint. They say spectators tend to park in their business parking lots during the event, and ask that they park in the spots allotted for the championships.
