Florida State Representative Irv Slosberg is calling on the governor to help victims of last week's historic rain event.
Flood waters damaged many residences. Kings Point in Delray Beach was especially hard hit.
Representative Slosberg sent a letter to Florida Governor Rick Scott requesting that parts of Delray Beach and Boynton Beach be declared a State of Emergency.
In the correspondence Slosberg said, "Hundreds of homes were so flooded that many of my constituents have been left homeless. My district is home to a large senior citizen community and unfortunately many of these people do not have automobile or flood insurance. These people are on a fixed income, and are mostly uninsured."
Slosberg said he hoped the governor could tour the area to see the problems firsthand.
Of his constitutents Slosberg said, "it is shameful to see them left out in the dark in this time of need."
Emergency management teams assessed damage Wednesday in Lantana and Kings Point in Delray Beach,
The director of the Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management is requesting that the Florida Division of Emergency Management consider seeking a Small Business Administration disaster declaration for Palm Beach County. If that happens it would allow eligible residents to apply for low-interest loans.
