Edwige Dupervil: Delray man accused of child rape flees to Haiti, later brought back to US

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Delray Beach police say a man suspected in the October rape of a 12-year-old girl bought a one-way ticket to Haiti the morning after the incident was reported to police.

Police eventually caught up with him in Haiti and brought him back to Palm Beach County Jail where he remains on a $100,000 bond.

Police say the alleged incident occurred on October 19, 2013 when the 12-year-old went to visit a friend in her apartment complex.

Her friend was not at home, so the girl told police she began to walk back to her family's apartment.

Police say that is when her neighbor, Edwige Dupervil, grabbed her by the arm and pushed her up against a walk and raped her.

According to an arrest report, the 12-year-old attempted to get away but Dupervil told her, "If you tell anyone, I will kill you."

The child later told her mother of the incident and they contacted police.

Police attempted to locate Dupervil after the report was made but he was not home.

Police later determined that Dupervil had been living in Haiti since November.

He was brought back to Florida on a warrant on April 4th.
