Delray man charged with attempted murder and grand theft auto

DELRAY BEACH — A 34-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after Delray Beach police say he shot 32-year-old Timothy Lee Bryan, of Palm Beach Gardens, in the face.

Richard Ryan Johnson, of Delray Beach, is also charged with grand theft auto and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In his first court appearance Thursday morning, Circuit Judge Ted Booras ordered he be held without bond.

Bryan, Johnson, and Johnson's girlfriend, 30-year-old Danielle McKay, were all at McKay's apartment on Southwest 22nd Avenue early Wednesday morning when an argument started, a police report says.

Johnson was jealous over text messages sent to McKay and Bryan intervened, trying to stop the argument.

Johnson then held up a gun and McKay said, "We need to leave, he will use it, he's crazy." Bryan then was shot in the face, the report says.

He was transported to Delray Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Johnson stole his girlfriend's keys and drove off in her silver Kia Optma which he later crashed and abandoned, the report says.

He was arrested Wednesday night in Pompano Beach by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, Sgt. Nicole Guerriero, spokeswoman for the Delray Beach Police Department, said in a news release.
