Suspect intentionally rammed police cruiser, Delray Beach police say

Delray Beach police arrested a man on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving without a driver's license and grand theft auto after officers say he hit a vehicle and left the scene and then intentionally rammed a police car twice while trying to get away in a stolen vehicle.

According to police, two officers were on a routine patrol around 7:30 Tuesday morning when they witnessed a hit and run accident near Federal Highway and Lindell Boulevard.

While one officer checked on the victim of the crash, two other officers followed the getaway vehicle in an attempt to stop it.

Police say the vehicle continued into Boca Raton and down a residential cul-de-sac where the vehicle struck several more objects.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, identified as Daniel Esteban Pinedo-Velapatino, intentionally rammed the officer's car twice in an attempt to get away and then took off on foot.

With assistance from Boca Raton police, officers arrested Esteban Pinedo-Velapatino. He was transported to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Delray Beach police say none of their officers received any injuries in the incident. The driver of the vehicle involved in the initial hit and run crash received facial and arm injuries but is expected to recover.
