DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - A Delray Beach girl is gaining national attention for her musical talent. Tuesday, it took her all the way to the Oprah Winfrey Show. You’re going to want to remember Brianna Kahane’s name. She may only be nine years old, but she’s an extremely talented violinist who’s very passionate about her music.
Something special happens when Brianna plays her instrument.
"It just makes me feel happy and other people listening to me - it makes them happy, too," said Brianna.
Brianna has been playing the violin since she was four, but this talented musician knew she found her calling at an even younger age.
"My mom took me to a lot of concerts when I was two years old and about this high, so I went to a lot of concerts,” she said, “then I saw these amazing violinists playing and it just warmed my heart and I wanted to be just like them."
Brianna practices an hour-and-a-half to two hours a day. That practice is paying off. Recently, Oprah Winfrey invited her to perform for her “All Time Most Talented Kids” episode that aired Tuesday, March 1.
Brianna is still excited about it. "It was amazing!” she said. “It was the thrill of my life! I always wanted to meet her. I mean, she's my idol - working for charities, helping people around the world."
Was she nervous?
“Yeah,” admits Brianna, laughing.
Her family couldn't be more proud.
"I honestly can't believe it,” said her mother, Karen Kahane. “I'm just so proud of her and just so excited."
Brianna would love to perform as a professional musician some day, but right now, she's content to perform for charities, letting her amazing talent help others.
"The reason I do it is because I want to make the world a better place, one song at a time,” said Brianna.
Brianna, who has her own website, only started performing for charities two years ago. In that time, she’s helped raise more than $18 million.
