Two people pulled from a vehicle in a canal in Delray Beach

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Two people were pulled from a vehicle that went into a canal in Delray Beach Tuesday after a driving lesson went awry, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say man was trying to teach a woman how to drive and their vehicle ended up in the water near Lake Ida Dog Park at 1455 Lake Ida Road.

Officials say a passerby on a personal watercraft was able to rescue the woman. She was hospitalized but is expected to be OK.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene and sent divers into the water. 

They removed the man from the vehicle and transported him in critical condition to a hospital.

Investigators say the man did not know how to swim.

The sheriff's office has not yet identified the driver and passenger.
