DELRAY BEACH, Fla.. – It was a Sunday morning as usual for the Delray Beach church hit by a tornado Thursday. St. Mary’s Anglican Church held all of its regular church services, even after suffering a lot of damage.
The tornado took down trees all around the property, some fencing, a prayer pagoda and some power lines. It also damaged the building’s tile roof and tore up the church’s courtyard, destroying a lot of the outdoor furniture within.
However, the sanctuary was completely untouched.
“It definitely popped over the church, thank you God,” said St. Mary’s administrative assistant JP Listick.
Listick says she was almost sucked into the tornado when she went to open the door for a delivery worker outside. He and she were both able to get inside and shut the door, however.
“We had several miracles on Thursday,” Listick said. “We truly did. No one was hurt. Not any person was hurt."
The church still has a lot of cleaning up to do on its property, but church members say they were grateful just to get to worship in their sanctuary Sunday, untouched by any of the storm’s damage.
