A South Florida man has been named the GoFundMe Hero of the Month for his work passing out free Narcan across the state of Florida.

Luis Garcia, a retired Boynton Beach firefighter, has invested his own time and money to help educate people about the medication used to help save people who are overdosing.

"I am committed to saving lives and to getting Narcan out to the community,” said Garcia.

Garcia says he has passed out over 1,300 Narcan nasal sprays, free, to anyone who is willing to use it to help save a life.

He said he knows of nearly 100 people who have used the nasal spray on someone overdosing.

Garcia will host two-hour classes where he will go over how to use the medication properly. He says he has spent over $50,000 of his own money buying Narcan and traveling across the state.

The GoFundMe honor will help him with some much-needed donations.

“I am going to replicate what I do in Florida and go into other states that need Narcan,” said Garcia.
