PBSO says it found 300 oxycodone pills on Victor Arango, the man shot by deputy outside a sports bar

Deputy involved in shooting identified

SUBURBAN BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- A man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting early Thursday morning outside the 1st and 10 sports bar west of Boynton Beach, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

The man shot has been identified as Victor Arango, 26 of Lake Worth.

According to Bradshaw, someone from the bar called the sheriff's office around 5:10 a.m. reporting "a large fight involving five or six women." Bradshaw said deputies then received a second call from the bar of more fights breaking out in that area.

Bradshaw said deputies arrived at the scene at 4956 Le Chalet Boulevard and attempted to break up an altercation about ten yards from the bar.

Deputies grabbed a man who was fighting and during the struggle he took out a handgun and attempted to shoot a deputy, Bradshaw said. His partner, identified as D/S Michael Suszczynski, watched the events unfold and, fearing for the deputy's life, shot the man according to the sheriff's office. Arango died at the scene.

Suszczynski is a 7 year veteran of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

"The guy produced a gun from his waistband and attempted to shoot our deputy," Bradshaw said. "We're here at the request of the people to quell the disturbance at this location."

The sheriff's office later revealed that it found more than 300 Oxycodone pills on Arango after he was shot.

This case comes after a recent string of deputy-involved shootings in Palm Beach County. This is the fourth local deputy-involved shooting in a little more than three weeks.

"It's not a matter of how we feel," Bradshaw said, referring to the shootings. "We don't ask people to draw guns on us to try to kill us."

Bradshaw said deputies have been called to this sports bar 46 times since January, including nine times in April and 10 times in May. The bar is located near a shopping center with a Publix supermarket.

On Monday, Sheriff's Lt. Michael Burdick fatally shot Armando Gonzalez Felipe at a trailer park in suburban West Palm Beach. Deputies said Felipe killed his girlfriend and shot and wounded Burdick and a K-9 deputy before deputies killed him.

Last weekend, Michael James Wallach, a suspected carjacker, was involved in a shootout with deputies while trying to escape capture. Wallach was shot in the thigh and shoulder and is now charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

On May 16, Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Custer shot and killed Seth Adams after confronting him in the parking lot of his family's Loxahatchee Groves property. Custer said the 24-year-old assaulted him and that he thought Adams was armed.
