BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -
Boynton Beach police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in the 1800 block of West Woolbright Road Thursday evening, said Stephanie Slater, spokeswoman for city police.
Fernando Menendez, 83, of Boynton Beach, was struck around 6 p.m. by a black Corvette as he ran north across West Woolbright Road against the pedestrian signal and unto the path of eastbound traffic, Slater said.
The driver of the Corvette, 74-year-old Richard Carter, continued driving due to shock, stopping at Southwest 8th Street, Slater said.
Menendez was rushed to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead around 10 p.m.
The accident closed Woolbright Road for several hours. The road reopened around 9 p.m.

A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Woolbright Road in Boynton Beach, according to city police.
The pedestrian was taken to Delray Medical Center with serious injuries, said Stephanie Slater, spokeswoman for city police.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was caught on Southwest 8
th Street, she said.
The accident, which closed Woolbright Road for several hours, happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Woolbright.
