Two Boynton Beach police officers were recognized Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund singled out Officer Christopher Munro and Officer Eric Reynolds for their bravery in pursuit of a bank robbery suspect in 2012.
Police spotted Calvin Wallace's red Lincoln Town Car after getting word to be on the lookout.
Investigators said Wallace crashed into an elderly woman's car on NE 9th Avenue and Railroad Avenue, opened the driver's side door of his red Lincoln town car and opened fire on Reynolds and Munro.
"Our officers, two of them, heroically got out of their vehicles and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, killing him," said the police chief at that time.
Reynolds was shot in the foot.
They were later named by their department as recipients of its Officer of the Month Award for February 2013.
