Residents living in the area between Lantana Road and Boynton Beach Boulevard are reporting the smell of gas in their neighborhoods.
Florida Public Utilities has informed NewsChannel 5 that they have added mercapton odorant to their natural gas lines and that there is no gas leak.
However, FPU wants to assure residents that there is no gas leak.
PBCFR has responded to more than 30 incidents for investigation of the smell of gas.
Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, says Emergency Operations Center employees will begin making reverse 911 calls to people in Central Palm Beach County to inform them of the source of the smell of gas.
Calls will be made to homes from Interstate 95 to the Turnpike and from Forest Hill Boulevard to Hypoluxo Road, Borroto said.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said the "rotten egg" smell will begin to dissipate throughout the evening.
