Hula Surf and Paddle School teaches water safety

Who said learning about water safety had to be boring?

Dozens of local kids with the Hula Surf and Paddle School will be spending the summer learning basic ocean safety, and marine life education.

It's a camp that focuses on water safety, while at the same time, being able to enjoy  a day at the beach.

"We learn about and what to do when you are in trouble and what to do with rip currents," said Carmen Ones.

"Our goal is to teach them about the aloha spirit, and spreading the aloha, and teach them how to be safe at the beach while surfing," said Reinaldo Schiavinato.

The camp runs through the end of July.
