Heavy weekend rain causes flooding in area farms

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Heavy rains pushed through South Florida over the weekend, prompting farmers to check for damaged crops Monday morning.

The owners of Bender's Farm in suburban Boynton Beach say quick flooding doesn't help the crops, neither did the lack of cold weather this winter.

They said the downpours can bring bugs or diseases to plants, but know the rain is much-needed.

Rain totals surpassed two inches in West Palm Beach during the weekend, which can be somewhat significant in that short time period.

Boynton Beach saw more than 3 inches just on Friday and Saturday.
