A 29-year-old Palm Springs man is facing charges of cruelty toward a child by promoting sexual performance by a child, possession of obscene materials and sexual assault on a person under the age of 16-years-old for an alleged incident with a teen girl.
According to an arrest report, the investigation began on March 25th when an officer made contact with a Boynton Beach father who said his 16-year-old child had been receiving nude photos of a man on her cell phone.
The man was also requesting nude photos in return from the teen, according to the dad.
The father then brought his daughter in to file a police report.
Police say the alleged victim originally told suspect Dustin Jay Harpel that she was 19-years-old when the two met in May but later told Harpel her real age of 16.
The teen told police that she and Harpel had engaged in sexual activity approximately 20 times over the next few months.
Police say one of the encounters resulted in a pregnancy which was terminated in January of 2014.
Boynton Beach police asked for consent to search the teen's cell phone which they say contained several images believed to involve Dustin Jay Harpel.
Harpel was arrested and taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.
