COPS: Suspect punched clerk when told to stop

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - There were fireworks Sunday night in Boynton Beach but they were not celebrated at the Chevron station at 217 North Federal Highway.

Boynton Beach police say that they were called to the gas station just before 11 p-m concerning a man in a car throwing fireworks in the parking lot.

The store clerk told police that the man, later identified as Clinton Gordon, was lighting the fireworks and scaring customers who were pumping gas. A witness told police that Gordon was throwing lighted fireworks at the building.

The clerk told Gordon to stop or he would call the police.

Gordon got out of the car and punched the clerk in his left cheek, according to the police report.

Police arrested Gordon and charged him with simple battery and one count of displaying fireworks without a permit.

Gordon was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
