Police: Victim pistol whipped in his home

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A man who Boynton Beach Police say was part of a trio involved in a home invasion has been arrested.

Police say that on May 15th there was a home invasion robbery in the 100 block of NE 5th Avenue.

Officers say that the victim, who was alone at the time, heard a knock on his door.

Three men were outside, according to police.

One of the three pulled a gun on the victim and demanded entry to the house.

A fight ensued, according to police, among the victim, the gunman and another person.

Investigators say a man identified as Cleveland Smith was able to get inside and moments later pistol whipped the victim.

Police say the victim knew Cleveland Smith by the name of "Little D".

The victim was able to identify Smith from a photo lineup.

Police say that Smith also called the victim's cell phone to apologize for the attack.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on armed home invasion and grand theft charges.
