SUBURBAN BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A Boynton Beach man was killed Friday evening when he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in suburban Boynton Beach, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Brent Becraft, 43, was riding his Cannondale bicycle north in the bicycle lane on Lyons Road around 6 p.m. when he tried to cross the intersection of Lyons Road and Boynton Beach Boulevard. The traffic light was red and Bencraft failed to yield to a 2008 Dodge van driven by 51-year-old Rafael Perez.
Perez, of Fort. Lauderdale, was traveling west on Boynton Beach Boulevard when his van struck Becraft, Barbera said. Becraft and his bicycle overturned and slid across the pavement.
Rescue crews found Becraft lying on the roadway, not moving, and transported him to Delray Medical Center in critical condition, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
Becraft later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Barbera.
