Veronica Armitage: Boynton Beach woman suspected of lying about robbery, arrested

Charged with falsely reporting non-existent crime

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Boynton Beach police have charged a 54-year-old woman for falsely reporting a robbery.

On Tuesday, detectives say Veronica Armitage told officers a man pushed her to the ground outside a Chevron gas station on Federal Highway and snatched $80 from her hands.

After finding discrepancies in her story, investigators questioned Armitage a second time and discovered that she had made the entire story up.

Police say Armitage told them she accidentally fell outside the gas station and was worried her insurance would not cover the cost of the ambulance, so she lied.

She's been charged with falsely reporting a non-existent crime.
