Boynton Beach police warn of red light ticket scam

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Boynton Beach police officers are warning people of a new scam that is targeting seniors.

In this scam police say a man calls and identifies himself as Palm Beach County Sheriff's Lt. James Duncan and advises the person on the other end of the call that they have an outstanding red light ticket that needs to be paid.

On April 25th, officers responded to a home in Sterling Village and met with an 80-year-old woman who had been a victim of this scam. The man said he was calling because she ran a red light at South Federal Highway and Southeast 23rd Avenue in Boynton Beach on March 3 and had not paid the ticket.

Anyone who has received a call like this is asked to call police.
