The Boynton Beach police department unveiled a new mural inside its training center today.

It shows an eagle over an American flag with a thin blue line to represent law enforcement. The words civility, accountability and pride are written across the bottom.

The department chose Boynton Beach artist Tommy McGraw to do the painting after soliciting ideas from local artists.

Officers from all over the area will see the mural as they walk into the training center, especially as the Boynton Beach police department prepares to host more training exercises at the facility.

Something McGraw didn't know about until today.

"It's very exciting and, if i known this from the get go, I would probably have been very nervous painting it, if I knew that pressure. But I'm very excited and I hope all enjoy it," McGraw said.

It took him 67 hours to complete the painting. He says he volunteered his idea because he wanted to show his support for the police department. His brother-in-law used to be a police officer in Georgia.

McGraw says he's enjoyed meeting the officers who've stopped by while he was painting the mural.
