A lifeguard is doing fine after lightning either struck his tower or nearby. This happened at Oceanfront Park in Boynton Beach at about 4:30 this afternoon.

The parks and recreation director said the lifeguard was inside a tower at the time of the strike. He did not go to the hospital.

Witnesses said there was a lot of lightning at the time.

"The bolt and the thunder hit at the same time where it even blinded me for a second. And that's when I knew something happened,” explained Jeffrey Larrabee, who runs Jeffrey's Snack Shack at the beach.

City staff will inspect the tower tomorrow to try to figure out if lightning directly hit it.
