BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A 19-year-old swimmer was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after being pulled out to sea by currents while swimming near the Boynton Inlet, said Captain Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
Rescue crews responded around 6:51 p.m. to reports of a swimmer in distress at Ocean Inlet Park, 6990 North Ocean Boulevard. Upon arrival they found the swimmer approximately 500 yards offshore and being pulled south by the currents. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Coast Guard boats were asked to assist in the rescue effort, but the teen swam to shore before they arrived, Borroto said.
The male was evaluated and taken to Bethesda Hospital East, he said.
