Youngsters celebrate Earth Day at Florida Atlantic University

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University’s youngest owls are celebrating Earth Day by planting a new garden.

Toddlers and young children got their hands dirty at the Karen Slattery Educational Center on FAU’s campus Tuesday.

University President John Kelly joined in as the children planted native plants.

The garden is the first of its kind at the center.
"We will be teaching the children about how native plants help our environment. It will be a strong educational component in our curriculum,” said Karen Slattery Center Director Lydia Bartram.

FAU's University Club helped to fund the project, which the center will work on year round.
