BOCA RATON, Fla. - Construction crews are expected to return to Burning Tree Lane Tuesday morning, to cover up a sinkhole.
The sinkhole opened up in the Boca Raton neighborhood Monday afternoon. Utilities crews say a water main break and heavy rains caused the problem.
The hole is about twenty feet wide and five feet deep.
A school bus traveling through the community Monday afternoon got stuck in the hole. All the students on board got off safely. A tow truck was able to pull the school bus out of the hole and tow it away around 6:30 p.m.
The water main break caused residents to lose water temporarily. Utilities officials say they expect a boil water advisory to be in place for several days.
Police blocked off the hole Thursday morning, keeping residents far from it. They say the ground is unstable and not safe for residents to be on.
No word yet how long it will take crews to fill the hole and make the roadway safe again.
