Road rage incident in Boca Raton escalates, ends with shot fired

No one on the scene was injured

BOCA RATON, Fla. - On Saturday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m, a road rage incident started on 6000 block of Glades Road, and ended in the Nordstrom's parking lot of Town Center Mall with a shot being fired, said Mark Economou, spokesman for the Boca Raton Police Department.

No one was injured during the road rage or from the shot fired in the mall parking lot, Boca Raton Police said.

The commotion began when an off-duty Department of Homeland Security agent, driving with his wife and three kids, was cut off by a red car while traveling east on Glades Road, said Economou.

The driver of the red car drove to the Nordstrom's parking lot, where he parked and picked up another passenger. The off-duty agent parked in front of the red car and exited the vehicle with his wife, Economou said.

As the off-duty agent approached the car, the red car drove off, possibly hitting him and his wife.  Then, the off-duty agent fired one shot at the car, striking the rear panel, Economou said.

The driver of the red car drove home and called his wife, who then called the police. A short time later, the driver of the red car returned to the mall. Both parties are cooperating with detectives, said Economou.

The Boca Raton Police Department is investigating this incident and ask that anyone with information please contact Detective Ron Mello at 561-620-6186.
