Boca Raton police have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash Monday night.

Asia McClave, 20, of Lighthouse Point was crossing the 700 block of West Glades Rd. when police said a light blue or gray/silver vehicle struck her in the eastbound lanes.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m.

Police said McClave died at the scene.

Her parents confirm McClave was a former student at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

Authorities are looking for the vehicle involved, which they say could be a Hyundai. Police said the car, which is missing the driver's side mirror and possibly has front-end damage, left the scene traveling east at a high rate of speed.

Asia's mother, Maria Teresa Kline, said she dropped her daughter at FAU Monday night where she's been living with a friend. Investigators don't know why Asia was walking across Glades Road or in what direction but say she was hit in the eastbound lanes.

"She was so beautiful and very smart and very gregarious," said Kline.

Maria Teresa said her daughter grew up in Lighthouse Point. She went through the dual enrollment program at FAU for high school and college. Asia's parents said they heard that witnesses saw the car slow down after hitting their daughter and then take off.

"The guy knew what he did, he knows what he did, he should have stopped," said Guy McClave, Asia's father.

Kline and McClave say the driver will never know their pain.

"Weeks before Christmas and her birthday, it's just terrible," said McClave. "She was only 20-years-old and her sister now lost her best friend."

They hope people will come forward and help police find the car and driver.

"It was an accident, everyone can see that, but running away is not an accident," added Kline.

Police ask anyone with information to call Boca Raton Traffic Homicide Investigator Eric Genden at (561) 620-6223.
