Peter Gaffey accused of not paying $30 Boca Raton bar tab, trying to leave in wrong car

BOCA RATON, Fla. - A Delray Beach man, who is accused of not paying his $30 bar tab, tried to get away early Wednesday morning in a vehicle that he didn't own, according to the Boca Raton police.

At 1 a.m., officers said the suspect, Peter Gaffey, was at Dubliner Irish Pup located at 435 Plaza Real.

The manager of Dubliner told police that Gaffey gave the bar a debit card that was declined and then fled from the establishment.

Police said that Gaffey ran to a black Mercedes in an effort to get away.  According to investigators, Gaffey left his debit card at the bar that had his name on it.

Boca Raton police said after they spoke to the bar manager they found Gaffey next to a Mercedes, however it was not his car.

Officers said that Gaffey was so intoxicated that he didn't realize that he was at the wrong Mercedes.  His vehicle was actually parked across the street.

Gaffey was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges that he defrauded an innkeeper.
