Lynn University Presidential Debate: Watch parties pop up around Palm Beach County

Boca Raton, West Palm Beach plan viewing events

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn University students don't want to miss a moment of debate festivities in the days leading up to the big event. President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will faceoff in Boca Raton on Monday.

"To say that you were part of history here in Boca Raton is a great feeling," says recent graduate Noah Jewel..

Dozens showed up Wednesday for a trivia hour on past presidents. A chosen few, about 15 students, will actually be allowed inside the debate hall as volunteers. Dana Wexler is one of them.

"I'm an usher, so I'll be inside showing media to their seats. I hope to meet Obama and Romney," says Wexler.

Another 25 or so students will get a ticket to the debate in the lottery. But hundreds are expected to gather on the soccer fields for a red, white and view party. Booths are being setup for food and games.

"Everyone is excited and attending events, but not everyone can go to the debate. So this is a chance for the experience, to watch it with others in the excitement of it," says Dr. Robert Watson.

The city of Boca Raton is hosting its own watch party at Mizner Park. Thousands are expected to come out before the debate for a concert in the amphitheatre.

"It's one moment you're looking forward to the traffic jam. It's such an occasion, once in a lifetime, we're not going to see it again in my lifetime," says Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel.
