Investigators reveal cause of Suburban Boca Raton house explosion

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Investigators have determined the cause of a house explosion last week in suburban Boca Raton.

According to the Palm Beach County Bomb/Arson Task Force, the explosion resulted from the use of butane fuel in the extraction of hash oil from marijuana.

The blast happened at 22195 S.W. 62nd Avenue on May 6th, 2014.

Investigators say the butane fuel and marijuana mixture was placed inside a freezer in the kitchen.  They say a spark or arc from the refrigerator, which was running, ignited the vapors and caused the explosion.

A suspect is in custody and faces a charge of First Degree Arson of an occupied dwelling.
