BOCA RATON, Fla. - A Boca couple is dead after investigators say Ian Burlakoff murdered his wife along AIA and then was shot by a Boca police officer when they responded.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Investigators, Burlakoff failed to follow the officers commands and reached for his handgun when Boca Police responded.
That's when a Boca police officer shot and killed him.
Sheriff's Office Investigators say witnesses saw Ian Burlakoff shoot his wife shortly before the officer involved shooting.
"I was shocked. This is a real shocker," Bonnie Shafer said.
Ian Burlakoff was Shafer's boss at King Toyota for years.
"It doesn't make any sense. They had four kids. He was a good guy and a family man," Shafer said.
Friends say the Burlakoffs were active in the community.
"They did volunteer work, Habitat for Humanity…the list goes on and on," Shafer said.
Burlakoff was currently the General Manager at King Hyundai.
The President of the company, Jeff Gale, released this statement to WPTV:
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic news about Ian and Gemma Burlakoff. Ian was a talented and dedicated part of our team for over 12 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and children."
According to court paperwork, the couple filed for divorce in June and there was also a previous case of alleged domestic violence.
Neighbors who live near where the shooting happened on A1A say they heard four to six shots around 6 p.m. Sunday.
"My wife and my daughter were up on the second floor of the house and looked out the window and saw the policeman shoot the gentleman," neighbor Jim Lupner said.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation and the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office is also investigating which is standard protocol.
