BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton is preparing to send back another Loggerhead turtle into the wild.
On Thursday, and 4:30 p.m. the Center will release "Phoenix", a female turtle at Spanish River Park in Boca Raton.
"Phoenix" was hurt when a boat propeller ran over her. She had a steel hook lodged in her esophagus. The hook was lodged so deeply the animal would not survive if it wasn't removed.
The injured turtle was brought to the Palm Beach Zoo to perform a tense hour-long surgery to remove the hook.
The staff at Gumbo Limbo says she's in great condition now and eager to hit the surf.
Spanish River Park is located at 3001 Florida A1A. Parking fees will be waived after 4 p.m. so the public can see the turtle released.
