Boca Raton resident displaced by house fire

BOCA RATON, Fla. - A wheelchair-bound resident was able to safely get out of a burning home Tuesday morning in Boca Raton, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

At 7:43 a.m., crews responded to reports of a fire in the 8700 block of Thames River Dr. in Crescent Lakes.

When they arrived, crews stated they had heavy flames and smoke from the garage of a home.   Bystanders said they thought the occupant was still inside.

Fire crews fought the blaze and searched the home for the occupant. The wheelchair-bound resident was able to safely get out of the home and was evaluated by firefighters.

The fire was extinguished by 8:50 a.m.

The displaced resident is staying with family.  An investigator has been called to the scene to determine the cause of this fire.
