Boca Raton police chase driver who hit female officer with car during traffic stop, took off

Boca Raton Police were involved in a pursuit Friday after investigators say a suspect pulled over during a traffic stop hit an officer with his car.

The officer was not injured, but Boca Raton Police pursued the suspect from Congress Avenue near Interstate 95 to the intersection of Boynton Beach Boulevard and 441.

Boca Raton Police say they deployed stop sticks and the car can be seen smoking in cell phone video.

At the intersection, police say the suspect got out of the car and carjacked an elderly man, trying to take his car.

That is when a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy and a Boca Raton Police officer apprehended the suspect and took in him into custody.

The carjacking victim told WPTV that he was doing okay when he left  Bethesda West Hospital Friday evening.

The suspect was also treated at Bethesda West and then taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.

Charges are pending.
