Armed purse snatcher outside Kmart sought in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Boca Raton Police are searching for an armed robber who stole a woman's purse on Wednesday.

It happened around 2 p.m. in the Palmetto Park Square Plaza parking lot on the 400 block of Palmetto Park Road, police said.

The victim was loading shopping bags into her car south of the Kmart when she was approached by the gunman who pointed the gun at her and grabbed her purse. The suspect was last seen running west through the parking lot, they said.

Detectives have a surveillance picture of the suspect who is described as standing about 5-foot-9, weighing 170 pounds, wearing baggy pants, a blue baseball cap and a black polo shirt with an emblem on the left pocket over a white T-shirt and dark shoes. He also had a bandage on his left hand, investigators said.

The suspect used the victim's credit card at a Mobil gas station on Glades Road west of the Turnpike shortly after the robbery. The suspect was wearing the same pants and shoes but was wearing a tank top instead of a polo shirt. He was seen leaving in a green mid-size SUV with tinted windows, detectives said.

Investigators are urging anyone with any information to call Detective Ron Mello at 561-620-6186 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-8477.
