Two people are in custody after an armed carjacking in Boynton Beach caused a high-speed police chase on Interstate 95 Wednesday night.

Boynton Beach police spokesman Stephanie Slater said the carjacking occurred around 11 a.m. on North Seacrest Boulevard.

Officers located the stolen vehicle, a Nissan Altima, around 9:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of North Seacrest Boulevard and initiated a traffic stop but the driver refused to yield.

The driver, identified as Morris Johnson Jr., 18, of Boynton Beach, entered I-95 southbound at speeds of 90 to 100 mph before exiting at Congress Avenue in Boca Raton.

Police said Johnson then re-entered I-95 southbound.

Johnson then exited at Glades Road and drove to Airport Road, where police said he threw a handgun out of the car.

According to officials, he lost control of the vehicle just north of the Cinemark Movie Theater.

Johnson and a female passenger, Diamond Neely, were taken into custody at 9:44 p.m.

Officers recovered the handgun just south of the movie theater at 9:55 p.m.

Airport Road reopened after it was shut down as police investigated the incident.

No one was injured.

Johnson is charged with fleeing and eluding police, grand theft auto, possession of marijuana under 20 grams and driving without a license.

At a Thursday morning court hearing, Johnson's bond was set at $92,000.

It's unclear if Neely will face charges.

The investigation in ongoing.
