Boca Raton developer wants Spring Training Complex in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Boca Raton Developer and Businessman Glenn Gromann says there is no better place in Palm Beach County for a new Spring Training Complex than Boca.

"We have some land in the city and we have some athletic facilities, so why don't we do this in Boca," Gromann said.

Gromann is talking to city and county leaders after Palm Beach Gardens asked the county to consider other sites for the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays.

"It would be a really good economic driver for the city. It would bring visitors and baseball fans and I know we have an indigenous group of fans in Boca and nearby Delray Beach," Gromann said.

The area Gromann thinks would be good for the complex is near the Public Library along Spanish River just West of Interstate 95.

County Commissioner Steven Abrams says whether it is Boca or someplace else, it would be bad for the county to lose Spring Training all together.

"It is a nice amenity to have Spring Training in your community. It would be kind of an embarrassment for our exiting Spring Training teams to clear out of her," Abrams said.

The Vice Mayor says she will ask the city staff to look into the idea in January.

Boca looked into bringing Spring Training to the city in 2006, but the idea fell apart.
