Victim ID'd in fatal Okeechobee County shooting

The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office said a 36-year-old man was killed and a 29-year-old woman was hospitalized in a double shooting Thursday afternoon

The man was identified as Christopher Jermaine Allen, who was shot to death in the 700 block of N.E. 14 Ave., in the Douglas Park area of Okeechobee.

Deputies responded to the shooting at about 2:54 p.m. and found Allen unresponsive. Deputies performed CPR until Okeechobee County Fire Rescue arrived.   Allen was transported to Raulerson Hospital but later died.

A 29-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was also shot at the scene and taken to Raulerson Hospital and later transferred to Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. Her injuries and condition are unknown at this time.

Detectives are attempting to locate 20-year-old Cornelius Monray Merriweather to assist in the investigation.
