OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a man seen acting suspiciously toward children in Okeechobee County.
Around 11:53 a.m. Thursday, a man in a blue van approached a child on a bicycle and told him to come with him, according to the sheriff's office. The child was able to ride his bicycle away and was unharmed.
On the same day, deputies said a man in a blue van followed a child from the bus stop and pulled into a driveway. The child was able to run to a neighbor's house.
An adult approached the driver of the van who stated he was selling women's clothing, purses and perfume, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said the man was unable to show any merchandise when asked by the adult.
The suspect has been described as a white or Hispanic man, about 5-feet 9-inches tall with thin build, full beard, no mustache, blue eyes, black hair and crew cut.
The suspect was last seen wearing a pink, blue and green striped shirt and tan pants. Deputies said the man speaks with broken Spanish with a Middle Eastern accent. The van was described as a blue, older model, unknown make. The vehicle has a taxi sign in the driver's windshield.
Deputies are asking anyone with information leading to the identity of the suspect in these incidents to call the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office at (863)763-3117. Anyone who encounters this person is also asked to call 911 and not to engage him.
"Our children are our number one asset," Okeechobee Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Noel Stephen said. "Their safety is very important to all of us. Please be aware of where your children are and what is going on around you. If you see this man, vehicle or anything suspicious then call us immediately."
