OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, Fla. - Donna Byers won't soon forget the bloodcurdling scream she heard Wednesday morning.
She got off the computer and looked over at her neighbor's backyard around 10:45 a.m.
"As soon as I saw the way the woman was acting and hearing her screams, I knew what had happened," Byers said.
The grandfather, Clyde Sidney Lowe, 60, who lives at the house on Southeast 21st Court, was returning from a doctor's appointment.
He went down the driveway and turned the corner in his SUV.
"Parks the car in the back usually. When around the house, apparently 7-month old child was sitting on a blanket in the back. He did not see the child sitting there," said Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael Lanham.
Neighbor Steve DeRoin had just seen the child, identified as Peyton Anita Norland Lowe, playing on the blanket moments before.
"I just saw the baby laying there and the grandma laying over it and I could hear the mom, couldn't see her but I could hear her screaming on the patio."
Friends were shock when they heard the news. They came to comfort a family in mourning.
The baby was taken to Raulerson Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The grandfather suffered minor injuries in the crash but wasn't taken to the hospital.
