TEQUESTA, Fla. - A 55-year-old Martin County man was taken to a facility for a mental evaluation after a nearly six-hour standoff with law enforcement.
Officials said Peter Barski and his son had a fight when he started acting erratically and threatened to shoot himself.
The SWAT team ultimately released a non-lethal gas into the home to force him out and take him into custody.
"He repeatedly threatened to commit suicide and repeatedly said he wanted us to kill him. Thankfully because of the SWAT team, and the good cooperation between them and our road patrol units, we were able to take him into protective custody,” said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.
Officials said Barski will not be charged with a crime.
