West Palm Beach turns to students for ideas on improving city

PALM BEACH GARDENS, fla. - West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio turned to students for ideas on making her city better, Friday.

Students at the Benjamin School made presentations to the mayor and her staff as part of their final project.

The students studied issues facing West Palm Beach and then put together a plan to improve the city.

Groups of students looked at issues such as parking and homelessness.

The students' teacher says this is a lesson with real impact.

"To think creatively, to establish roles and leadership within groups, to take these same great skills with them to college and beyond," English teacher Simon Behan said.

The mayor will now take the students' ideas back to West Palm Beach City Hall and see if they can become a reality.
