PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - A Delray Beach man has been arrested by Palm Beach Gardens police on suspicion of hacking the email files of an attorney.
Police say that the West Palm Beach attorney had been using a local information technology company to maintain and store his emails.
The attorney notified police on October 12, 2012 that his and all of his employee's emails had been deleted from their account.
The IT company, according to police, was able to track the email network intrusion to a former employee who had access to administrator user names and passwords.
Investigators say that Patrick Gorman, who had worked for the IT company and had worked on the attorney's account, was arrested after they traced the break-in to a computer that he was using,
Gorman told police that he did not break into the account for malicious purposes but rather to test security for another client that he was working for and that used the same IT company.
Police say that Gorman later told them that he broke into the account out of curiosity.
Gorman was arrested and charged with accessing a computer or network without authority.
He was booked into the Palm Beach county Jail and later released on bond.
