A study conducted by the Florida Department of Transportation is looking to improve traffic along Interstate 95 in Palm Beach Gardens.
During a city council meeting Thursday, FDOT updated the public and council members of the possible solutions being considered.
The most controversial option is a new interchange at Central Boulevard. The proposal is not new, but it is the one with the best results, a FDOT study says.
The study found that by adding an interchange to Central Boulevard, they could reduce congestion at PGA Boulevard.
One example shows that by 2040 it will take a driver 17 more minutes to access I-95 from Central Boulevard if there is no interchange.
Some still oppose the plan and cite more traffic, noise, danger to school kids and pedestrians as potential problems.
The interchange was planned for completion in the Summer of 2016, but that is clearly not possible given that construction hasn’t started.
FDOT says with no plans confirmed, they are still discussing alternatives.
