PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Two members of Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue jumped into a body of water near a shopping center Friday evening to search for a man who was last seen struggling to stay above water, according to Chief Keith Bryer, department spokesman.
The man, believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was in cardiac arrest when pulled out of the spillway and was rushed to the nearest hospital, Bryer said.
Bryer said that rescue crews responded around 6:39 p.m. to calls of a drowning south of the Promenade Plaza at 9840 Alternate A1A. When crews arrived, witnesses told them that they had seen a young man go under water after struggling to stay afloat. Two crew members dove into the water and found the man.
He was taken to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Bryer said.
