A woman driving north on Florida’s Turnpike Tuesday morning claimed she was sexually assaulted by a man who stopped his car and offered to help her.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office now says the alleged victim has admitted that she made up the story.
The sheriff's office says it arrested Alexandria Westover and charged her with the false report of a crime and perjury not during official proceedings.
In her original story Westover claimed that she was driving between the Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter exits when she had to stop her vehicle to fix a flat tire.
She told investigators that a white man driving a white vehicle stopped to help her change the tire.
When she opened the passenger side door, she claims the man came up behind her, pushed her into the vehicle and sexually assaulted her.
The sheriff's office says detectives, Florida Highway Patrol troopers and The Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit spent more than 100 hundred hours of manpower investigating this sexual assault case.
Westover has been transported to the Palm Beach County Jail for processing.
