North Palm Beach group assembles care packages for military

NORTH PALM BEACH, FLA - The volunteers of Support Our Troops USA, assembled in the Village of North Palm Beach Saturday morning, setting aside time to send a little bit of home to those men and women so far from it.
"We get emails from the troops that express their appreciation in the fact that they really like the fact that Americans are still backing them, feel for them and their families and the sacrifices they're making," said Robert Gebbia, the co-chair of the organization.

Candies, cards, and DVDs all combined to make a care package for American military forces stationed overseas.

However, according to Gebbia, the most cherished gift being shipped, comes from the heart.  "Cards and letters that are written by people from all over the county.  Children all the way up through adults.  We've collected over 6,000 cards that will be going in the shipment," said Gebbia.

For volunteer Barbara Moriarty, the holiday shipment was a year in the making.  Moriarty managed to knit over 100 woolen hats for troops last year.  This year, she managed to nearly double her efforts.  It's a homespun holiday greeting, designed to warm heads, as well as hearts.  "I did the camouflage, and at the very end in the last four rows, I put pink on the top.  I figured if a female wants one then there you go, that's yours," said Moriarty.

Over 1,000 servicemen and women will receive the care packages.  A little touch of the familiar, in a holiday season spent far from home.
